80W all mode VHF Amplifier

This is a 80W all mode VHF Amplifier designed by W6PQL it was published in QST magazine in 2013.

This is a great amplifier for any handheld (HT) or QRP rig that you want to get more oomph out of it.
my need for this was that I only had a Yaesu FT1D HT for C4FM and needed something that had more than 5 watts out when distance from the repeater was my enemy.. C4FM base units cost hundreds more then I was willing to dish out on at the time so I looked for an alternative for amplification.

I enjoy building things, either from scratch or plans or even a kit build, its more enjoyable and rewarding knowing that something you put together with your own two hands, Plus you learn alot more about design and why it works...

Instructions for the build are very detailed and he offers PCB boards for sale..

Jim goes into great detail on the low pass filters, input attenuation, T/R relay switching and the delays for the forward bias to keep the amp running smoothly for long time use. and explains why he designed it that way, he also has many other projects on his site for HF, VHF, UHF amplifiers that output power well into and over a kilowatt, along with microwave projects and other electronic projects, certainly worth taking a good look at
